Airtel Kenya has waived the transaction fees across all bands on its mobile money service. It announced on Monday that starting Tuesday (today), all peer to peer money transfer will be free for the next 90 days as the country works to tame the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
The telco has also increased the transaction limits and the amounts individuals can hold in their mobile wallets.
Daily transaction limit has increased from Sh70,000 to Sh150,000 while the daily limit for mobile money transactions is up to Sh300,000 from Sh140,000.
The limit subscribers can hold in their wallet has also increased to Sh300,000 from Sh140,000.
Transaction charges for transfers from mobile wallet to bank accounts have also been waived.
Kenya has so far reported four cases of Covid-19 since last Friday with 23 people placed under isolation as the government steps up efforts to curb spread of the virus.
The Kenyan government has also banned entry of non-Kenyan citizens from coronavirus-hit countries, closed schools indefinitely, discouraged large gatherings and encouraged people to work from home.
