More troubles for Keroche as KRA ordered to collect Sh 9bn

Keroche Breweries CEO-Tabitha Karanja.

Keroche Breweries is in trouble after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) won a case at the tax tribunal to collect Sh 9.1 billion from the brewer.

On Wednesday 11th March 2020, the taxman announced that it had won an appeal at the Tax Tribunal allowing it to proceed with the collection of the outstanding taxes from the troubled brewer.

The judgment was announced on Monday setting ground for  a fresh round of court cases that the taxman aims to enforce to ensure that the brewer pays the outstanding taxes.

If KRA has its way, it is believed that Keroche-a private company with its finances not available publicly will struggle to raise the billions placing the brewer’s assets and those of its shareholder’s at risk.
